Coming from QuickBooks Point of Sale
QuickBooks Point of Sale was discontinued in 2023. If your shop still runs it, or has already moved on and misses it, FreedomShop is a free, open-source point of sale built around the same daily work.
What will feel familiar
- A home screen that lays out the sales and purchasing workflows, with the lists beside them.
- Sales receipts, held receipts, returns and gift certificates.
- Sales orders with deposits, for layaways and special orders, and a list of what's waiting for pickup.
- Purchase orders, receiving vouchers and receiving history.
- Items, departments, vendors and customers, with on-hand quantities.
- Price tags, and the closing reports: daily totals, sales tax and sales by vendor.
What's different
- No subscription. FreedomShop is free to use, on as many registers as you have.
- It runs on your own server. Install it once in the back office. The registers sign in to it over the store's network.
- Open source. The code is public under the AGPL-3.0-or-later, so nobody can retire the version your shop depends on.
- Sales tax is yours to set up. Add your own tax locations, rates and exemptions, and your own filing periods.
Bringing your data along
A way to bring customers, items, vendors and sales history over from QuickBooks Point of Sale is planned. Until then, a new shop starts with its item list and opening counts.
